FROM THE STUDIO of CHARLEEN MARTIN

"CONFLICT?  I DON'T SEE ANY CONFLICT."

6 x 6" Acrylic on Acrylic Pour

I get 2 or 3 pieces done and then I'm back to the Ravens.  Such personality in so small a bundle.  His messy 'hair' was painted with a pointed wooden scewer.  Yes, the kind you use for Shish-kabob. :)

I DON'T REALLY GAMBLE, BUT IF I LIVED NEAR A RACETRACK I'D PROBABLY BE IN TROUBLE!

'AND THE RACE IS ON'

12 x 12 Acrylic

I have been to the races a few times and thoroughly enjoyed them.  I usually rooted for the Horse whose name I liked best, or the color of the Jockeys uniform.  That's how I know I'd be in trouble.  I don't think you usually win that way! :(

This was a pour that couldn't get away.  The horses were 75% there.  I just needed to figure out where I was going with them.  The Raven, of course, needed to dive in to the race.  Not sure who won this one.

Semi-Precious Stones

Bringing in ELEMENTS of the earth into Fine Art

My “Elements” series is a creative blending of semi-precious stones and unique pieces of the earth with traditional fine art. I love finding and using things that were created by nature such as semi-precious stones and sea shells, using them in unique and creative ways.
“I’ve never seen anything like it”  Is the biggest comment I get.
The semi-precious stones I use in my Elements series come from all over the world from various sources. Most of the stones I use have been collected throughout the year in order to work out my compositions and then incorporate them into my paintings.
Each semi-precious stone has individual properties generating energetically from the stone. The energy can be felt by wearing the stone, touching the stone and will fill your room where the art will hang.
I encourage people to touch the stones on the art to resonate with its properties. I include properties of the stones with the descriptions. Some stones are healing, energizing, loving, and calming. Some resonate with different chakras and evoke emotions.
I love working with and showcasing the unique beauty found in each semi-precious stone. I hope you enjoy these unique works as much as I enjoy creating them.

Stones Used:

Quartz: Wonderful multi use stone. Enhances energy of all other stones and metals. Harmonious and powerful. Aids communication. Sign of Entire Zodiac.

This is another pour with an Acrylic Painting over it.   The original Pour is below.  I've been trying to keep the integrity of the Pour while creatively adding to it.

These have definitely been fun to do!

WELL, THAT'S IF YOU HAVE STUFF TO STRUT!
LIKE THIS GUY . . .

'STRUT'

5 x 5" Acrylic painting over an Acrylic Pour

More information on him can be found HERE

And this is what the original pour looked like before I added Sir Strut . . .

Strut original pour

I've given myself an added challenge to the recent pours that I have done.  I want to creatively add a painting to the original pour without losing the integrity of the piece.  I feel like I succeeded with this one.

Onward! :)

This reminds me of the miles of Golden Wheat fields down in the Palouse region of Eastern Washington.  We were down there last week and the wheat is already peeking up through the soil.

6 P.M. AND THE NIGHT PEEKS IN ...

A new Painting done on Textured Canvas.  I love working on the Texture ~ especially for landscapes.  I think it adds a lot of dimension to a painting.

DEAR OCTOBER, I LOVE HOW YOU DRESS.

DEAR OCTOBER,  I LOVE HOW YOU DRESS.

6 x 8" Acrylic on Wood Panel

This is another Piece done on a heavily textured wood panel.  The texture is random so the challenge is to find the Painting amongst all the texture.  :)

WINTER IS COMING ...

'WINTER AT BROKEN LIMB FALLS'

6 x 8" Mixed Media Painting

This is one of those Pieces that is already done before you start.  I did some very heavy texture on this wood panel.  Very abstractly, not really with anything in mind.  When the texture had dried and I went back to look at it, I immediately saw the broken tree limb and the rocks.  I also saw Winter.  I suppose it could have been any other time of the year but for some reason I saw Winter which made it a little more challenging.  Winter and cold ...  I guess it is just around the corner.  :(

'BREAKTHROUGH'

'BREAKTHROUGH'

SOLD

6 x 6 Acrylic on Textured Canvas

This started its life as an abstract landscape.   The strip of heavy texture in the middle (paper towels) was originally a mountain range (it's now upside down).  I never was very happy with the finished product so I finally gave in and started from scratch.  This is one of those pieces that was just meant to be.  Once I 'saw' its new life it didn't take me very long to do and it sold almost immediately at a recent Studio tour that I was part of.  It went home with a member of a very prominent Hollywood family (at least 4 are Actors and she is one of them) whom I did not even recognize until AFTER she left.  Someone else handled the actual sale for me so I was momentarily oblivious.  The sad thing is, she was actually in my home about 10 years ago as part of a Show I was having for a mutual friend who is a Photographer.  (Long story).  So,  has she changed that much, or ... is my memory just that bad now.
Somehow, I feel it's the latter.  :(

WINTER AT BROKEN LIMB FALLS

WINTER AT BROKEN LIMB FALLS

6 X 9 Acrylic on highly Textured Wood Panel.
This was a fun piece to do as the 'story was told' as soon as I looked at the dried texture on the wood panel.  I guess it was all in the sub-conscious.  :)
