Of the three Diebenkorn is my favorite probably because his style is the closest to the type of work I do. We worked on raw canvas that was stapled to a firm support - masking tape covers the staples so they don't get paint on them and become harder to remove.
Above you can see the under painting, which was in warm tones analogous to the finished piece. I scraped the painted surface with a large comb to make some parallel lines.
If you compare the random color fields of the under painting, you can see that I merely enhanced what was already there. It was truly a case of letting the painting paint itself.
Of course, it ended up looking like a geologic abstract! No surprise there. I'm not putting this on my website yet because I'm not sure how I'm going to finish it. Right now it's stapled to a support and doesn't have a finished edge.

This painting began as one image and after working with it quite a bit, became totally another. It took many turns until I was pleased with it. I've used rusted found objects, copper, oil, oil stick, graphite, old wood and sections of other paintings I have done. Never discard anything - when you least expect it, it works!

This mixed media piece was inspired by the beautiful view we get when driving up I70. You can see this panorama when you come to a well known bridge knows as "Beauty Bridge". It got its name because it is one of the few bridges in Colorado without a support in the middle. Built with this very view in mind!

This is one of the medium sized abstract paintings I completed. There are some gorgeous copper painted areas that don't seem to show up in the photos. I titled this "Emergence" because the final painting just seemed to emerge as I worked with textures and colors.

A designer in Houston saw this painting in a show and knew her client would love it in her new home. She wanted to do a triptych as the wall where they were to be hung was large. She commissioned me to do two others relating to this one. Somewhat of a challenge, but was actually very fun to do. This is a painting on top of a painting using a new technique I have developed and I love the outcome. They are always surprising. They are going to the framer this afternoon.
