Mixed Media Flower Art Painting, Poppies “THREE REDS AND A YELLOW” by Colorado Mixed Media Artist Carol Nelson

This painting is done in the faux batik style. After painting the flowers, a layer of wax was applied as a resist. After gently crumbling the waxed painting, a darker color was pushed into the cracks. After ironing to melt the wax, a beautiful lacy pattern appears.

"Happy in Bloom", Original Mixed Media Painting by Colorado Artist, Donna L. Martin

Happy in Bloom

This is one of my latest pieces.  It was done on a recycled wood pallet with inks, acrylics, and painted papers.  This was so much fun to do!  I love the way the wood grain shows through portions of the paint and ink.

This one is sold, but commissions are welcome.  Feel free to email me with questions or comments!

"Sunshine Day", Original Mixed Media Painting by Colorado Artist, Donna L. Martin

"Sunshine Day"

I feel like I'm "painting happy" again!  This is another fun, whimsical poppy painting, fresh off the easel.  It was done with acrylic inks, paint, and hand-painted paper.  It measures 12 X 12 X 1.5 and is painted on a birch cradle board canvas.  It is finished with resin and comes ready to hang.

If you need a little sunshine, this painting is available!  Please feel free to email me with any questions, comments, or if you are interested in purchasing.

"SPRING HAS SPRUNG" 12038, mixed media collage poppy flowers © Carol Nelson Fine Art

Spring Has Sprung

This is another in my latest kick of collage painting with torn papers.  I really like the variety of color this method creates.

Look at the individual petals and notice the numerous shades of color each one has.  It's because that particular piece of torn paper had those random colors in it.

I would never come up with that color variation on my own using a brush.  Maybe that's the secret to the appeal of these paintings.

I'm still trying to figure out why these are so appealing.

"POPPY PIZAZZ" 11073 textured red orange poppy flower © Carol Nelson Fine Art

"Poppy Pizazz"

This is poppy essence.  The petals are sculpted with acrylic medium and the flower seems to leap off the canvas.  I've painted hundreds of poppies (I'm guessing), and I never tire of their beauty.

I'm giving a workshop on November 4-5, 2011 in Littleton, CO.  One of the things I will cover is how to make these little gem poppy paintings. (Think gifts - your Mom/Sis/Daughter would love one.) See workshops on my website for more info.
