It's almost here!!! My new video "New Approaches to Mixed Media Materials" with Carol Nelson

You've been asking for this for years!  Finally, I made an

instructional video that you can purchase through Craftsy.com.

The video will become available on June 13, 2016.

Before the launch on the 13th, we will have a giveaway in the next

couple weeks to give readers a chance to win a free class!

This link will take you to the Craftsy signup/login page, offering

a chance to win the class for free.  A random winner will be

chosen on June 13th.

So many people around the world (literally) write me saying they

would love to attend one of my workshops, but they live too far

away to attend one.

This video is my approach to creating with mixed media.  The

information in it is like attending a 3-4 day workshop with me.

It's not just a bunch of techniques either, there is instruction

on how I actually use these techniques in creating an abstract

composition.

Holes in Tyvek - it's a good thing.

Here I am working on the Craftsy set.  Those of you who have seen me work know that I am not this neat and tidy.  I have stuff all over the place, but my producer wanted to keep everything clean and organized.

Some examples of work that I will be discussing in the video.

Contemporary Mixed Media Abstract Painting, "Arroyo 2" © Carol Nelson Fine Art

This painting has a lot of mixed media materials in it, including plaster of Paris "stones". They are so fun to paint. The painting is float-mounted on oak plywood.

Mixed Media Collage, "Imagine" by Carol Nelson Fine Art

"Imagine" 10x10 mixed media collage by Carol Nelson

This piece was a demo for my recent workshop in New Braunfels, Texas. My favorite part about this painting is the turquoise.

One of the students had a bottle of Lucas Cryl Acrylic. They make a turquoise color I find irresistible. It's different from my Golden Fluid acrylics because it is very opaque. In this painting, I painted it on a piece of red rosin paper and had excellent coverage.

"One of a Kind" mixed media abstract collage painting by Carol Nelson

"One of a Kind" 24x6 by Carol Nelson

I took a pile of odds 'n ends papers, foils, and burlap and put them all in a pile on one end of an elongated canvas.  Then I added some color spots around the pile, and finished it off with a leaf I had made out of cold porcelain.

Look up "cold porcelain" on Youtube for various videos and recipes.  It seems easy to make, but I have tried it twice and gotten variable results.  Think I'll try polymer clay because I don't need a lot  to make a few leaves and things.
