Original Contemporary Abstract Mixed Media Alcohol Ink Painting "Breathless" by New Orleans Artist Lou Jordan

FRESH OFF THE EASEL...... 

 "Breathless' is an abstract painting done with alcohol inks on Yupo. The color is deep and exciting with blues and a few pieces of orange and white. It speaks to me of pushing up from the depths, up into the light and the air, with deep breaths, to the space above. After my tiny gems (see earlier posts) at Christmas, I'm going larger. This impactful painting is adhered to an 9x12 panel, sides are black, and all are painted with acrylic gloss medium. It is truly extraordinary - like an ancient enamel.

Abstract Expressionism, Mixed Media, Alcohol Ink Painting "Mod-Pod" by New Orleans Artist Lou Jordan

"Mod-Pod" is another of the Tiny Gems series that I created before Christmas to give to loved ones. It was glued to a w/c paper card. I then signed it and sent it of to one of our many family members and friends. I started one or two and kept on going until I had finished 100! (big family). I could do about 20 at a sitting - and it was addictive! They got better and better the more I did - so it was hard to stop. I took photos of them all before I sent them off so at least I still have the image. If you fall in love with them, I can do lots more - just let me know. 
 They will all be different but I can keep to the same color palette. 

They make great cards for special people. $25 or 6 for $100.

"Orb II" Original Alcohol Ink Contemporary Abstract Painting, Cosmos by New Orleans Artist Lou Jordan

The Orb paintings are two new alcohol ink paintings that speak to me of Cosmos; space, strings of golden matter, layers and layers into infinity. As I am always trying to see "what will happen if I do this?" these are experiments using the inks on larger pieces of Yupo. I get a substrate of color down on the Yupo and then start dripping and throwing the inks onto the paper - starting at the top and moving the paper all the time til they are dry. Then I have to make sure there is a balance in color and value, a point of interest, (circles are hard to make with the inks). I sit it on the ledge over the fireplace and live with it for a few days, add or subtract, spray with fixative and gloss medium and then either adhere to the wood panels or frame.

Crystal Ball (alcohol inks on Yupo) has just been completed, and was a bit of a challenge. I was trying out a new size (14x11) and decided to make the painting a grid composition. I wanted each square to relate to the others and yet be different - and it was challenging to get a sense of unity. I added some of the white alcohol ink to perk it up, and it is definitely interesting! Definitely has a magical sense to it....
