This painting is done in the faux batik style. After painting the flowers, a layer of wax was applied as a resist. After gently crumbling the waxed painting, a darker color was pushed into the cracks. After ironing to melt the wax, a beautiful lacy pattern appears.

This painting has a variety of textured collage materials.  The part I'm most excited about is the rusty area shown above in the detail photo.

It is actual rust that was activated by painting copper sulfate solution on a paint containing iron filings.  After a little while, the dark gray iron paint begins to rust - a very beautiful , if unpredictable, look.

"Shelter From The Storm" Contemporary Collage Painting By Donna Holdsworth

This painting is done on 11x14 textured stretched canvas.  I created the church using papers from National Geographic pages treated with CitraSolv.  Some truly amazing results can be achieved using this technique!  I drew the man with charcoal, then painted him with acrylic and collaged him into the painting.  I applied multiple acrylic glazes to achieve rich color and depth that I am unable to capture with my camera.  Contact via BLOG:  Donna Holdsworth Contemporary Art.  Thank you!

"Johnstown 57" Contemporary Art Collage By Donna Holdsworth
