Mixed Media Vertical Painting "Poppy Power" by Colorado Artist Carol Nelson

I started this painting as a collage with several pieces of colored paper glued in place on the wood panel. Somewhere along the way, some poppy forms appeared. I painted in more of them to make a pleasing composition. Some of the existing papers were painted over, but I could still see the edges of these papers, so I decided to emphasize these edges with black lines. That's why the resulting painting has a feeling of stained glass. Did you know I used to have a stained-glass studio? I don't do stained-glass anymore, but I still consider it one of the most beautiful mediums. Maybe that art form lingers in my creative subconscious because black lines appear in a lot of my work.
