Day 4 of the experimental acrylics with Carol Nelson
in Granbury TX using a variety of mixed media materials and techniques
and no, you haven't missed days 1-3, I'm starting at the end and working
backwards, just keeping you on your toes. Tulip was on Day 4, torn
paper paintings and this looks nothing like the piece I worked on during
the workshop as it has gone through several transformations back in my
home studio. The original flower area texture was built up with custom
patch and painted with acrylics and now I've added collage.
We made some of our collaged papers by a shaving cream method Carol discovered on Pinterest that
gave some delicate stained papers. My class neighbor shared some of her
Japanese newspapers and I added more when I got home with crossword
puzzle pages, a math book, and atlas pages and some were stained with
acrylics.
I was fortunate to come home with Carol's "Spring Has Sprung", 8x6 that she used as a teaching piece. It is on MDF board.
I "borrowed" one of Carol's photos of the view outside the Shanley House where the workshop was held.
Here is Carol teaching us about Custom Patch texturing.
These
friends are still smiling on the last day..always a good sign of a good
workshop. And if you're friends of Carol on FB she has posted an album
of photos from the Granbury workshop and lots of student work.
Early
morning critiques from the paintings from the day before.. lots of room
in the gallery and we could have a separate room for drying, ironing
the wax out of our faux batik's and critique.
It has been a busy week as I taught a one day collage workshop at the Dutch Art Gallery June 2 and just a reminder there will be Saturday workshops given all summer and you can see the schedule HERE. The one coming up this week is Liz Hill and I've signed up for the following week painting roses with Pat Meyer, June 16. I was first on the list with my collage high heel and there are plans for a follow up so it's not too late if you missed the first class, just call Pam Massar 214 348-7350 and put your name on the list. Here is the Dutch Art Gallery link with more information.
